Setting up the Facebook Pixels app

With Facebook advertising taking over the world, you need to improve your Facebook Ads' ROI constantly. What better way than creating highly targeted audiences and lookalikes? Using its gazillions of data points, Facebook can identify and target the closest looking 1% (2%, 3%, ...) of the population that best resembles your core audience. When used correctly, this powerful tool can help a business drive down ad costs and increase its conversion rate.

To find out more about the usage of Facebook pixels, check out Shopify's own Facebook Pixels guide or the ones from Oberlo and Hootsuite. The tutorial below should also be helpful if you're just getting started.

Being one of the flagship apps of the Vitals suite, the Facebook Pixels app is a highly versatile and reliable tool for increasing the return of your ad spend.

The Facebook Pixels added through the app will not fire the Initiate Checkout event when Dynamic Checkout Buttons or Cart Drawers are used and might not fire this event if other 3rd party Upsell apps are used.

Introduction to Multiple Facebook Pixels

A Facebook pixel is a code snippet that you place on your website, and it collects data about your visitors' behavior. It helps you track conversions from Facebook ads, optimize ads, build targeted audiences for future ads, and remarket to people who have taken action on your website.

Shopify allows you to install single, store-wide Facebook pixels that will fire on all your pages. With our app, you can add an unlimited amount of pixels. You can even customize where they should "fire" - basically send a signal to Facebook that a particular visitor did a specific action.

In our app, you can choose 3 different types of pages where the pixels should fire:

  • Entire store - this pixel will be active across all of the pages of your store (except Checkout)
  • Specific Collections - this pixel will only be active on the product pages of a particular collection
  • Specific Tags - this pixel will only be active on the product pages of particular product tags

Make sure you don't add in the app the same pixel you've also added in Shopify. If you do this, your data will be tracked twice. To get accurate, non-corrupted data about your visitors, use a pixel only once to make sure the information is valid.

Furthermore, there are a few differences between the pixels you have in our Multiple Facebook Pixels app and the one you have in Shopify. Please read a more detailed article here.

How to set up the Facebook Pixels app.

Enable the app and click the Create new pixebutton.

  • Pixel fires on the entire store
  • Pixel fires on specific collections
  • Pixel fires on specific product tags

Please keep in mind that the pixels are  not created inside our app. But instead, you make the multiple pixels in your Facebook Ads Manager account, and once you have them created, you can use the different pixel IDs in our app.

Furthermore, you can check with the Facebook Pixel Helper Chrome Extension that your pixel is firing. A more detailed explanation can be found here: How to confirm that the pixels are firing correctly?
