Filtering and removing duplicate reviews

Before attempting this process, please ensure you have exported all your store's reviews and saved the CSV file intact. This will be your backup file in case you make any mistakes.

You can remove duplicate reviews with the help of Excel (for Windows) or Libre's Calc (for Ubuntu) with only a few clicks.

First of all, you need to export your store's reviews to a CSV file from the Import section.

💡 Ensure that the reviews in the CSV are verified and are real reviews. Shopify does not allow the display of fake/manipulated reviews according to their Acceptable Use Policy.

Using Microsoft Excel

1. Open the CSV file with Excel.

2. Select the body column of the file by clicking on its corresponding cell tab (H tab).

The body column of the reviews is where the review text can be found, and this is what we'll be using to check for duplicates.

3. With the entire column selected, go to the Data tab in the navigation bar.

4. Find the Remove Duplicates button from the Data Tools section of the toolbar.

5. Select the body column if not already selected and press OK to remove duplicates.

6. The file should now have all the duplicates hidden, so press CTRL + A to select everything.

7. Open a brand new Excel file and copy everything to the new file (selection without duplicates).

8. Name the file and save it in CSV format.

9. Go back to your Products section in the Product Reviews app and delete all of your reviews.

No need to worry. You should already have the exported CSV file as backup, as well as the new, curated one.

10. Once you've deleted all the reviews, go to the Import section and import the new CSV file.

And you're done! Your reviews will be re-imported, only this time without any duplicates! You can also check this out for more information: How to Find Duplicates in Excel.

3. With the entire column selected, go to the Data tab in the navigation bar.

4. Find More filters, then select the Standard filter.

5. In the first box, under Field name, select none instead of Column H, then open the Options drop-down and check the box for No duplications, then click OK.

6. The file should now have all the duplicates hidden, so press CTRL + A to select everything.

7. Open a brand new Calc file and copy everything to the new file (selection without duplicates).

8. Name the file and save it in CSV format.
